As a Porsche works driver, Pascal Wehrlein seemed to have somewhat disappeared from the public eye with his Formula E outings. The electric series is still nowhere near as popular as Formula 1, and the German from Sigmaringen had already moved up to the premier class after his DTM championship title in 2015 - in 2016 with Manor Racing and in 2017 with Sauber F1. What looked like a relegation when he entered the electric formula for the 2018/2019 season turned into a great comeback for the now 30-year-old. Especially since joining the Porsche works team for the 2020/2021 Formula E season, Wehrlein has improved year after year and became Formula E World Champion in 2023/2024.
The German made a perfect start to the new year 2024 with a victory at the Mexico City E-Prix in his Porsche 99X Electric. Partner TAG Heuer and Porsche used the electric formula as a technology carrier and advertising platform and were often on the track with different advertising-effective liveries at the 16 races in the 2023/2024 season. At the fifth round on the street circuit in Tokyo, Japan, the 99X Electric was given a magenta-coloured outfit. With fifth place in the race, Wehrlein collected important points which, together with two further victories in Misano and at the finale in London, secured the world championship title. As a reward, the champion was given a Porsche cockpit for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2025.
