No fewer than 235,000 fans had gathered around the track for the 51st edition of the 24 Hours on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring. The fact that it remained dry throughout the race not only pleased the many fans, but also caused the lap times to tumble. The GT3 cars at the front were faster than ever, and the fact that the new Ferrari 296 GT3 was one of the favourites was demonstrated by the lap record set by Daniel Keilwitz, who thrashed the Rinaldi 296 GT3 around the Green Hell in 8:08.006 minutes. Behind 2 AMG-Mercedes and the Abt Lambo, the Frikadelli Ferrari started from fourth place.

Earl Bamber, Nick Catsburg, David Pittard and Felipe Fernandez Laser kept the Frikadelli Ferrari 296 GT3, privately entered by Klaus Abbelen, in the top five from the start. From the middle of the race, a thrilling battle developed between the #30 Ferrari and the #98 the fastest of the Rowe BMW M4 GT3. After 24 hours, the Frikadelli squad celebrated their first overall victory, the first for a private team in over 20 years and the first for a non-German manufacturer, with a lead of just 27 seconds. It was a sensational success, and one that the Frikadelli squad probably deserved with all their hearts.
