Model with driver figure Sabine Schmitz - then married Reck.

Johannes Scheid had won the Nürburgring 24 Hours on the Green Hell Nordschleife in 1996 with Hans Widmann and Sabine Schmitz - then married Sabine Reck - in a brand new BMW M3 E36. The white BMW with the castle drawing on the side was nicknamed Eifelblitz for the first time and can be found as a model on the following page. With a new driver line-up and a new design, Scheid Motorsports entered the M3 in the Green Hell again in 1997. However, the blue BMW returned from the first practice lap as a near-total write-off. After a night on the bench and tireless work by the mechanics, the rebuilt E36 was actually on time for the grid of the 1997 Nürburgring 24 Hours on 7 June. That was close!

This did not solve all the problems for the team, as the ABS also failed during the race. But skilful tyre selection in the rain and a faultless drive by the four drivers Johannes Scheid, Peter Zakowski, Hans-Jürgen Tiemann and Sabine Reck were enough in the end to secure a narrow victory ahead of the fast VW Golf TDI with Nissen, Abt and Hohenester. This unique model of Spark’s new Nürburgring 24 Hours classic collection was deliberately developed as a night version with additional headlights at the front and different wheels on the front axle. The fact that Sabine Schmitz (formerly Reck) is at the wheel in her original overall and helmet of 1997 is a special tribute to this popular and unforgotten woman.
